Welcome 2017!!  We hope everyone had a very special holiday and time off with their loved ones.

We will be starting of the New Year with the following things planned:

  • Weekly theme : New Beginnings/Happy New Year & all about ice (introduction)
  • Letter of the week : J j
  • Math skills : graphing. We will record weather daily and graph it at end of month, graphing favorite weather
  • Science: different types of  weather: incorporating with our daily circle time routine

Happy New Year to you and your families! We are so happy to have your children back as they were missed by us all over break. This week we will be doing the following activities:

  • We will also be using oats to make the letter o with our fingers.

Making Delicious Holiday Trees

We’ll finish our K projects and review letters A through K.

We’ll practice for our show on Tuesday 12/20, make delicious holiday trees and crunchy ad healthy snacks for the reindeer!

We’ve had a wonderful first half of the year! Thank you for sharing your children with us! We love them and take delight in their joyfulness and eagerness to learn!

We had a terrific week at school!

December has been a great month!  So much has been going on.  The students have made beautiful holiday decorations and are so very eager for their families to see the holiday show!

We continue to discuss the holiday season and the importance of being kind, considerate, giving, and thoughtful to our family and friends.

The children have been especially hardworking!  They worked on the letter J and the number 5.

In January, we will continue with our numbers, colors, shapes, letters, and projects!

As the year ends, I hope the holidays will be full of fun for all of you during this meaningful and wonderful time of the year!

I am blessed to have all my students in my class and look forward to the coming year !!!

We had a great week! The children enjoyed the strawberry jam we made and the  special  ice cream treat! Thank you Mrs. Z.!

We”ll make kites and learn about koalas and kangaroos. Look for our koala, kangaroo and kiwi art projects! We’ll practice the K sound and name K words.

At circle time, we’ll continue our sequencing/story telling lesson ( the children loved using the story cards and putting them in correct order) and we’ll also have a lesson on syllables: the children will be introduced to the parts of names/words as we clap out the number of syllables in their names.

We are practicing for our show on 12/20. The children are energetic and lively and eager for their families to see the show!

We’ll read Clement Moore’s The Night Before Christmas and The Reindeer Christmas by Moe Price.

The first week of December has been a great week!

The students have made beautiful holiday wreaths, snowmen, trees, and hearts.

They have been practicing the songs for the holiday show.

We have discussed the reason of this holiday season and how important it is to be kind, considerate, and thoughtful to our family and friends!

We worked on the letter I, with an igloo craft and we made our own ice cream cone with “sprinkles”.

At circle time, we sang and danced to our new holiday songs and continued working on our letters, numbers, shapes, seasons, months, and days of the week.

We are working on each student knowing their birthday month.

We continue to practice taking turns, sharing, school manners, and listening skills.

Next week, we will work on the letter J, and continue having fun reading our holiday books and singing our holiday songs!

A House for Hermit Crab

Hope all is well with everyone and is getting ready for the holidays.  It’s such a fun time of year being with each other and giving. This week we will be:

Learning about the letter ‘H’,  recognizing it, writing it, naming H words, along with the following activities.

*Helping hands activity which involves children telling things they can do to be helpful. (Extra special time of year to learn more about helping others)

*We will also be learning about hibernation and do a bear hibernation project. ( Perfect to go with our health skill about why we need sleep) 😊

Books: The Little Red Hen, Harold and the Purple Crayon, A House for Hermit Crab

We will begin learning about our first December holiday: Hanukkah. Students will recognize menorahs, dreidels, latkes and gelt. We will play the dreidel game and make Menorahs with their hands.

Books: The Best Hanukkah Ever, The Chanukah Guest, I have a dreidel

For math we begin estimating. I will read the book ‘Ish’ by Peter Reynolds.  We will be doing a estimating project using cereal and our handprints. Students will also use mini marshmallows as manipulates for activities including ‘hot chocolate’ counting mats with numbers 1-10.

Prek 4 ( Adele Leeds ) 

The children have created beautiful holiday decorations: wreaths, trees and snowmen! You’ll see them displayed at our holiday show. We’ve been practicing our songs and verses and the children are enthusiastic and talented!

We talk often about the reason and spirit of this season and the children are showing us each day their thoughtfulness and kindness. The kids are proud of the gifts they are bringing in to give to those in need. Thank you so much!

This week’s letter is J and we’ll make jellyfish, jack-in-in-the-box and strawberry jam ( strawberries and a little sugar). We’ll measure and mix together and spread the jam on saltines. Tasting is optional!!

At circle time, we’ll have lessons on patterning ( using colorful dot stampers) and sequencing ( putting picture cards in order to tell a short story).

We’ll read One Winter’s Night byJohn Herman  and Night Tree by Eve Bunting.

We had a terrific week at school!

We are working on many holiday projects and having fun reading our holiday books!

We continue to practice our letters.  This week we worked on the letter H.  We made sticker hearts for the letter H, we made helicopters for the letter H, and we made our own hands for the letter H.

It was so much fun tracing our own hands and remembering our right hand and our left hand!

At circle time, we sang our new finger-play songs about snowmen, we worked on our letters, months, days of the week, colors, shapes, seasons, and numbers.

We continue to practice our school manners, taking turns, sharing, and being kind and helpful to each other.

Next week, we will begin the letter I and continue with our numbers 1 to 4.

We are practicing for our holiday show and are having so much fun learning the special songs.

At music time, we are enjoying dancing and singing to the Reindeer Hokey Pokey!
