We’ll celebrate Memorial Day with stories, crafts and an edible American flag ( blueberries, strawberries and marshmallows)!

We’ll learn and illustrate this butterfly poem

First comes a butterfly
Who lays an egg
Out comes a caterpillar
With many legs

Spin and spin
A little cocoon to sleep in

Science skill: we have discussing the season of spring during circle time and that insects live outdoors. We will be creating insect plant holders so you can continue the lesson at home and watch them grow.

Science skill : having the children touch and feel the kernels then bringing in a popcorn maker to have pop in front of them to see how it opens and expands!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Prek 4 ( Adele Leeds )
We’ll read  The Very Hungry Caterpillar ( Eric Carle ) and create caterpillars and butterflies! We’ll snack on edible butterflies ( pretzels, oranges and strawberries).

To challenge our observation and predicting skills, we’ll place a raw egg  in a  plastic container filled with vinegar. Over two to three days the vinegar should slowly dissolve the calcium shell and the egg will look and feel like a balloon filled with jelly!

I’ll fill a jar with plastic insects and ask the children to estimate how many.
We’ll use goldfish ( pretzel, cheese and plain) to sort, count and graph!

We are finishing  our workbook pages and  our alphabet review books!
We are enjoying learning our songs for graduation!

Our Mother’s Day Tea is Wednesday, May 9 at 10:45 am. Please join us to celebrate and thank our moms!

We  are busy making our Mother’s Day gifts and cards!

We’ll review the water cycle ( collection, evaporation, condensation and precipitation ) and learn how clouds make rain using water, shaving cream and blue food coloring!

We are working on our alphabet review books and finishing our workbook pages.

We’ll read Me and My Mom (Alison Ritchie), I Love My Mommy (Sebastian Braun), I Love My Mommy Because… (Laurel Porter-Gaylord), Mommies are for Counting Stars (Harriet Ziefert), Mama Loves You (Caroline Stutson) and My Mommy and Me (Laura Trayser).
