Biscuit’s New Friend

We have officially finished our first week of school! We have been having so much fun learning and getting to know each other.

Theme of the week:
– Let’s Be Friends

Letter of the week:
– Introducing letter “Bb” and also reviewing letter “Aa.”

Books we will be reading:
– “Biscuit’s New Friend.”
– “Biscuit Finds A Friend.”
– “I Will Surprise My Friend.”
– “My New Friend Is So Fun.”
– “Bear’s New Friend.”

Songs we will be singing:
-Find A Friend
– Meet A Friend
– Friends 1, 2, 3

Projects And Activities:
– Letter “Bb” tracing worksheet
– Letter “Bb” alphabet page
– Making a friendship tree using our handprints
-Making a friendship flower: Asking the students what makes a good friend and writing the words they say on the flowers petals. Having the students also practicing cutting out the petals themselves.
– With weather permitting: Going outside with the students and practice writing our “Aa” and “Bb” letters with side walk chalk.

Math:
– Practice copying patterns with different sizes and colored apples.
– Learning to group items together by similar colors and/or sizes.
– Practice counting with different by using objects in the room.

Parents: Please remember to send back your child’s empty folder each day. This way we can send home all of the hard work they do at school! Also I am trying to help the children learn some responsibility by taking out their folders in the morning and placing them on the yellow table in the classroom. Please encourage your child to do this each morning when you bring them to school. Thank you!
Also Wednesday is our field trip to Sun High Orchard. Looking forward to a fun morning!!

Spring is Here

We’ll welcome Spring and Easter week!

We’ll start an indoor vegetable garden ( peppers , beans and tomatoes ) and tend to it and chart it’s growth!

We’ll make bunnies and chicks and use colorful plastic  eggs for math and language activities.

This week’s sight words are A and funny.

We’ll read Spring is Here by Will Hillenbrand and Wake Up, It’s Spring by Lisa Campbell Ernst.

Letter of the week is W

We’ve been learning about our five senses as well as different food groups the past couple weeks.

This week will be making a worm in hot cocoa dirt for different textures for our senses.

We will also be making a variety of Easter projects and learning about the real meaning of Easter.

For our children who attend on Thursdays we will be having a small Easter party and Easter egg hunt. If your child does not attend school that day you need to be signed up no later than tomorrow with a parent volunteer alongside of them.

We will also be making eggs for our food group protein.

This week we’ll review letters A-M and numbers1-15 using Christmas candies for alphabet and number line activities.

With Christmas lights, we’ll do a sorting and patterning activity and using colorful pompoms and our number skills we’ll decorate a Christmas tree

PreK 4 and Wraparound Class

In this short week we’ll continue working on the letter K. Please practice the K sound with your children and challenge them to name K words ( king, kitten, koala, kite, kangaroo etc.).

We’ll talk about harvest and gratitude and we’ll read stories about the first Thanksgiving. We’ll make a “thankful tree,” turkey hats and our own Mayflowers! Happy Thanksgiving!

PreK 2 Class 

As the weather gets colder and we are approaching the end of November, Thanksgiving is on my mind. This week we are going to focus on being kind and sharing. We are going to pretend to get on the Mayflower and discuss the first Thanksgiving when the Pilgrims and the Native  Americans sat down and shared a meal. 

We started practicing for the Christmas show. The pre-k 2’s will be singing We Wish You A Merry Christmas! This week I will send a copy of the lyrics home with your child. 

We are going to make Thanksgiving Day crafts and learn about the letter H. We will learn about the sense of hearing. Make sure to ask your kiddos about all the fun and wonderful things that are going on at school.

Summer Vs. Fall Activities

Pre-k2 Class

This week we finished reading The Kissing Hand and had fun talking about summer activities vs. fall activities. The children loved the scavenger hunt on the playground. We even had a little picnic.

Your sweet children have been sitting the majority of the time during circle time and learning the morning circle routine. During morning circle time we cover, days of the weeks, months of the year, shapes and colors. I would like to work on name recognition next week and we will learn all about the letter A. 



Pre-k3 Class

Theme – Summer vs Fall activities

This week we will continue focus on learning to share, say” please” and”thank you”, listen during story time and sit still when appropriate.

We will also practice taking turns through various games and activities.

We will be comparing differences between Summer and Fall through books and photos and outside observations.

English – We are working on letter “B” and its sound, naming as many “B” words as we can.

We are learning nursery rhymes- “Three Blind Mice”, “Humpty Dumpty” and “Hickory Dickory Dock”

Math – We will continue sorting by shape then by colour. We will be counting 1-10. We will be learning the days of the week.

Story – “Hairy Bear” by Joy Cowley

Circle Time Activities – ” B” words, color match, shape match, number maths and days of the week. We will read at least one story each day.

 We will collect B objects to to put into a box.

 

Pre-k4 Class / Wraparound

We’re getting acquainted and reacquainted with our friends and getting back into the rhythm of school!

We are working on letters A and B and numbers 1-15. We are reviewing shapes and colors as well. Using name cards , the children are learning the spelling of their names and their classmates’ names.

Circle time activities have included Applesauce As, color match, number math(one-to-one correspondence), days of the week, months of the year, seasons and weather reviews! We read at least one story each day as well.

This week we’ll have lessons on rhyming and positional words.We’ll use colorful blocks for counting and making sets. We’ll taste apples and use slices and seeds for a math lesson. We’ll make and snack on our own apple pies!

Winter Theme, S is our Letter of the week!

Dear Parents,

This month we are learning about developing an understanding of the season of winter, the weather changes and the life outdoors. Theme is all about ice and snow and our letter of the week is S. We will be creating our own igloos and snowman and make a snake out of the letter S. Our shape of the week is a square and we will be creating pictures from this shape. We are continuing to work in our workbooks and folders and are ready for conferences next week.
