Wake Up, It’s Spring

he children have been doing AMAZING writing their first and last names by memory!!!! I have been so proud of them!!!! Their names, addresses and birthdays are also coming along GREAT!!! Graduation practice has offically begun and the class has been doing great learning their first song 🙂 I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL week 🙂

Celebrate Earth Day

Prek 4 ( Adele Leeds )

This week we’ll celebrate Earth Day ( April 22 ) with activities, lessons and crafts to learn about taking care of our world– keeping the earth clean and healthy for ourselves and all creatures. We’ll talk about reusing and recycling to keep the earth green! We’ll read The Earth Book by Todd Parr.

The children loved our successful traveling water experiment! We  watched red and blue mix to make purple! This week we’ll experiment with yellow and blue. The children were great observers and predictors!

We’ll finish the alphabet this week. Look for our zebras and zinnias!  We’ll snack on an edible zoo ( pretzel sticks and animal crackers )!

At circle time, we’ll review numbers 1-20, letters A -Z ( upper and lower case ), syllables, opposites and sequencing.

Math skill: we will be sorting strips of different colored  and size papers for our xylophone project by color and size.

X for Xylophones

This week’s letters are X and Y. Look for our X-ray pictures, miniature xylophones, yaks, wax paintings and yellow-yarn Ys!
We’ll practice letter formation, beginning sounds and identify X and Y words.

Weather permitting, we’ll walk outside and look for signs of Spring and play on the playground!
Playing letter matchup, we’ll review upper and lower case letters ( A-Z).
With Kix cereal, we’ll count and sort to review numbers 1-15.
Using water, food coloring, clear glass jars and paper towels we’ll watch water
“walk” from jar to jar and mix colors to create new ones ( yellow and red to orange and blue and yellow to green).

We’ll read A Gardener’s Alphabet (Mary Azarian) and It Looked Like Spilt Milk (Charles G. Shaw).

Spring and Easter

We’ll celebrate Spring and Easter
on Wednesday 3/28 with a party, egg hunt and Easter/Spring craft.

This week’s letter is W. Look for our weather Ws, wagons, watermelons( math– counting seeds )and wiggly worms!
We’ll practice waving, wiggling, wobbling and winking!

This week we’ll read Whistle for Willie (Ezra Jack Keats), Henry’s Wrong Turn (Harriet Ziefert), The Night Before Easter (Natasha Wing), The Miracle of Easter( Jean M. Malone) and Spring is Here ( Will Hillenbrand).

This week’s letter is V. We’ll make volcanos, vases and cold vegetable soup ( carrots, peppers and celery)!

With baking soda, white vinegar and red dye we’ll make an erupting volcano! With the baking soda, vinegar, blue dye and rice we’ll make the rice dance!

We’ll read Arthur’s Family Vacation ( Marc Brown ) and talk about vacations we’ve taken or plan to take. At circle time we”ll use a large map of the United States to help us plan where we want to go and then pack a bag with all we need to have fun!

Shamrock Bingo

Prek 4 (Adele Leeds) 

We’ll review letter T words and beginning sounds and finish our letter T projects.
We’ll also explore different textures and tastes.

This week’s letter is U. Look for our colorful umbrellas and under water seascapes!

We’ll use shamrocks for math ( number recognition and counting  #s 1-15 ) and letter identification, A-U.
We’ll play shamrock Bingo and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with shamrock cookies and green juice!

There Was a Little Turtle

We’ll make tigers and tractors and learn and illustrate this letter T poem

T is for turtle

There was a little turtle
Who lived in a box.
He swam in the water.
He climbed on the rocks.
He snapped at a minnow.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a mosquito.
And he snapped at me!
He caught that minnow.
He caught that flea.

He caught that mosquito.
But he didn’t catch me!!

Show and Tell is Wednesday 3/7.
Please ask your child to choose something beginning with the letter T to show and describe to our friends at circle time.
