Science skill : having the children touch and feel the kernels then bringing in a popcorn maker to have pop in front of them to see how it opens and expands!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Prek 4 ( Adele Leeds )
We’ll read  The Very Hungry Caterpillar ( Eric Carle ) and create caterpillars and butterflies! We’ll snack on edible butterflies ( pretzels, oranges and strawberries).

To challenge our observation and predicting skills, we’ll place a raw egg  in a  plastic container filled with vinegar. Over two to three days the vinegar should slowly dissolve the calcium shell and the egg will look and feel like a balloon filled with jelly!

I’ll fill a jar with plastic insects and ask the children to estimate how many.
We’ll use goldfish ( pretzel, cheese and plain) to sort, count and graph!

We are finishing  our workbook pages and  our alphabet review books!
We are enjoying learning our songs for graduation!

Our Mother’s Day Tea is Wednesday, May 9 at 10:45 am. Please join us to celebrate and thank our moms!

We  are busy making our Mother’s Day gifts and cards!

We’ll review the water cycle ( collection, evaporation, condensation and precipitation ) and learn how clouds make rain using water, shaving cream and blue food coloring!

Dear parents ,
It’s hard to believe but there are only seven weeks left of school! We have been working the past few weeks on a lot of review in regards to shapes, numbers, colors etc .For the most part the children who have been with us from the start of the year are doing fantastic with review which is so rewarding for us to see how much they have learned this year! We completed the alphabet last week and although we don’t expect children at this age to identify letters typically many of your children have already begun to do so. Each week we have a vocabulary bucket with a variety of items that start with the letter of the week which they have enjoyed tremendously. For the last seven weeks we will strictly be reviewing letters and working on numbers six through 10 along with hands on activities. Please see the activities for this coming week below :

We are learning the songs for our end- of- year show, completing our workbooks, reviewing the alphabet and numbers1-20.
With colorful  manipulatives, we’ll explore greater than and less than.

With “paper earthworms” we’ll practice ordering by size.

Using our rice table, measuring cups and spoons and more, we’ll review measurement.

We’ll learn and illustrate this poem

May is the month
Of sunshine and flowers,
Birds in their nests
And one or two showers!

10 Things I Can Do To Help My World

We will also be showing the class some items that are recyclable and how they can be used again for something else. I will be bringing in a recycling box and the children will practice recycling items. Please feel free if you would like to send in some recycling items and we will use them during class time. From Seed to Plant


Prek 4 ( Adele Leeds )

We’ll read From Seed to Plant ( Gail Gibbons ) and plant pepper and marigold seeds! We’ll place our pots in a sunny window and watch them grow!

We’ll begin work on our alphabet books; the children will bring them home in late May and use them for review.

The children are learning about consonants and vowels and how they work together to build words. We’ll practice CVC words– cat, hat, bat, tap, map, lap and more.

We’ll learn color words ( red, blue, yellow, green ) and number words ( 1-10 ).

Look for our colorful solar systems!
