Spring is Here!

The overall goal for April is to study the various aspects of the season spring to help the children identify different animals that live in ponds, characteristics of water, to examine the importance of the earth God gave us and how to care for it and life which exists on it. In addition, we will be creating spring pictures , painting warm bright suns, reviewing the letter S and making our own snakes that slither!
Here is Aprils monthly supply list:

  • We are low on wet glue,
  • glue sticks and
  • paper towels.

Prek-4

To celebrate the change of season we’ll make  a pretty springtime snack: cherry blossoms with pretzels and pink cream cheese!
We’ll review letters G, H and I and practice letter formation with an edible  activity using honeycomb cereal and beehives! We’ll make beautiful letter G gardens!

 

We’ll explore living things (farm vegetables) and we ‘ll figure out which grow up and which grow below! We’ll do some taste testing too!

Our science activity/experiment using oil, water, dish detergent and small plastic animals shows us the importance of a clean environment to keep our animal friends healthy and happy!!!

Food Textures & Our Letter E

We will be reviewing letter E. Our week’s theme is different food textures. We will be making:

  • Fruit smoothies
  • Hard boiled egg people
  • A collage with barley lentils and green peas and a pasta pic in the shape of an E.

Also we have our in class field trip with special guest to our school on Monday at 10am. Our special guest is a nutritionist, Lori R. Lee who will be discussing nutrition topics with the kids. if you want to know more about Lori’s background, please navigate to her website.

Lastly, we need confirmation on couples for date nights otherwise we will not have it as I have to pay staff in advance. We need minimal three families to cover cost. 

 

Prek-4 Class

We’ll review letters A,B and C this week (beginning sounds,letter/word identification and writing practice).We’ll make “letter” alligators, bees and caterpillars.

Continuing with our healthy food/ healthy life theme and lessons we’ll make a leprechaun lunch( celery and cucumbers) and we ‘ll measure, chop and mix a fruit salad!

We’ll build “playgrounds” together to review positional words ( up, down, over, under, next to etc.).

For a literacy and math challenge we’ll use color- word puzzles to recognize/ read and sort and count color words and puzzle pieces.

Little Promises Academy Open House is Back!

We are having another open house on March 22nd 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM as there are some families that expressed they had invited people who were unable to attend our last event. This is our last open house until the summer time. Whatever spots are not taken from present families will be offered at this open house event. We will be distributing flyers locally around Randolph area. Feel free to forward the following electronic copy of the flyer to friends interesting on the open house.

Date night is here again!

March 21st from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM including healthy snacks, crafts and a movie for $30 up to 2 children. We need three families to commit to this in order to hold the event otherwise we will choose another date in the future.

Dr. Suess Birthday

Dr. Suess Birthday and Y, Letter of the Week

March 2nd is Dr.Suess birthday so on Thursday March 6th we will be having our very own green eggs and ham breakfast at school for all classes. Please send your kids in their PJs and let them experience something extraordinary! we would appreciate any donations of eggs, orange juice and plastic cups!

The remainder of the week we will be focusing on the letter Y and creating yellow yoyos, sponge painting the letter Y and making the letter Y out of yarn!

PreK4 Class

Y is the alphabet letter this week. We’ll make Yaks, yoyos  and paint with yarn-wrapped blocks!

We’ll practice making Ys, 4s, 6s, 9s and 10s and we’ll work on writing our names with uppercase and lowercase letters.

We’ll celebrate Dr. Seuss week with stories, crafts (Dr. Seuss hats ) and a breakfast of green eggs and ham !!

We’ll make a lion’s head and mane (patterning skills) and talk about how March goes in like a “lion” and out like a “lamb.” We’ll experiment  with straws and cotton balls as we learn about the wind!

We’ll explore the five senses this month and start with a lesson on touch. Using their hands only, the children will try to guess what objects are inside closed brown bags!

Healthy foods/ healthy bodies concept will be introduced this week and expanded throughout the month with science and sensory activities!

Date Night are here!

Hello Little promises families,

Parents have requested that we have date night again as our last one was a great success! We would like to begin this at our school either once a month or once every other month depending on  the parents needs. Your feedback is necessary in order to proceed with making this happen as we want to hear what you think. Date nights will be from 6:30 to 9:00 pm including crafts, snacks and a movie. Once the weather improves we will be doing organized games and activities outdoors.

X, the letter of the week

Hello Little Promises families,

Our Letter of this week is X and we will be working on the following projects:

  • Kids will be decorating X shapes with tissue squares.
  • As a winter season discussion wrap-up, kids will be involved on creating our last winter projects that includes marshmallow snowman craft.
  • They will be working with alphabet ice cubes that they will have to search for and identify.
  • We are also going to wrap up the healthy habits and hearts discussions.

Pre-k 4 Class

X is this week’s letter. We’ll make colorful xylophones and X- rays of our hands! We’ll practice making Xs and 3s, 5s and 7s.

To continue developing fine motor skills, we’ll practice cutting with paper plates, shapes and worksheets and use child safe tweezers(large,plastic and colorful) to pick up, sort and count a variety of small objects.

Math activities will include making sets with small snacks and using clip on clothes pins for a number/shape game.

We’ll make edible stegosaurs as part of our science lesson on dinosaurs.

W, the letter of the week

Hello Little Promises Parents,

Our letter of the week is W. This week we will be creating worms in dirt, whales in water and reviewing the overall monthly theme as we have missed class time due to the inclement weather. We will be also doing some additional valentine crafts for the kiddies who missed Valentine’s party last Friday.
Prek 4 Class

 

This week’s letter is W. We’ll make walruses, Ws with worms and oceans full of water, waves and whales!

Science lessons will include discussions/ activities on weather and different climates and how they affect out food,clothing and activity choices. We’ll learn about the water cycle and make a poster together!

In circle time, we’ll do sorting, counting and graphing with gummy worms. We’ll challenge ourselves with word searches(looking for color words and our names)!

Friends-and-family Referral Program

We have previously mentioned that the preschool will be hosting an open house on February 22nd 2014.  We have added a friends-and-family referral program  as part of the open house event for the preschool. The idea is that anyone who signs up during the next open house event on Feb 22nd as a result from a friend or family member referral will receive a one time $25.00 credit off their next month’s tuition payment.  if you have two friends to sign up, the credit goes up to $50 dollars and so on.

Bring your friends and family to the event who are interesting on join the school!

 

Reminder: The school will be closed on Monday February 17th 2014 for President’s Day holiday.

V, the letter of the week / Parents Feedback

V, the letter of the week

Hello All,
Next  week’s letter is V and our weekly theme will be healthy hearts and teeth as we missed most of our lessons due to inclement weather. We will also touch on black history month. We have our in class trip Monday February 10th from 9:15 to 10:15 with Dr. Anthony Fusco. This trip is for all children who attend Little Promises on Monday and if you wish for your child to join you are required to call in advance.

PreK-4 Class

V is this week’s letter and we’ll use valentines and hearts for math and language activities. We’ll do sorting and graphing with heart-shaped marshmallows !

To celebrate President’s day we’ll learn about presidents Washington and Lincoln with stories and project/poems.

For science we’ll make a “volcano” and watch it erupt!!

We’ll make valentine cards and shape collages!

Circle time activities will include a lesson on table manners(making a small booklet of reminder cards)!!!

We’ll also review sharing: when it’s appropriate and when it ‘s not!!!

We are having a valentine party at our school on February 14th from 10:00 AM  to 11:00 AM.  All children are welcome but if your child does not attend in that day normally they need to call and sign up for that hour in advance.

Healthy Hearts & U, the letter of the week.

Hello All,
Next weeks theme is healthy hearts. We will be creating a healthy heart collage of good food that keep our hearts strong. Our letter of the week is U and we will be making our own umbrellas out of coffee filters and pipe cleaners. Another lesson we will be learning is how God created the universe and will be making a craft to accompany the lesson.

PreK-4 Class

In Circle Time, we’ll review, with math and language activities,numbers, shapes, letters and colors.we’ll practice uppercase/ lowercase letter matching and have a lesson on positional words. This week ‘s letter is U and we’ll make umbrellas and unicycles; both projects will challenge our math  and organizational skills!

We’ll have a Groundhog Day(1/2 between winter and spring!) story and science lesson and explore the science of shadows( indoors with flashlights)!

At workbook time we’ll practice name writing and do simple graphing.

Valentine Fundraiser – Little Promises Academy

T is the Letter of the Week!

This week’s letter is T! Our overall theme we are reviewing is winter wonderland. We will have our trip to chuck e cheese on Monday so there will be no pre-k 3 and 4 classes at the school. On Thursday and Friday January 30th and 31st, we will be closing early for parent teacher conferences at 11:45 am.

Some of the projects we will be doing are:

  • making a snowman out of marshmallows,
  • creating the Letter T out of popsicle stick and glitter
  • and painting our very own winter scene.

PreK-4 Class

This week’s letter is T and we’ll do several math and literacy activities with “T.” We’ll learn about transportation, tools and tigers! Watch for our tiger puppet/mask!

We ‘ll read “The Foolish Tortoise” by Eric Carle and make a tortoise using our thumbprints.

For snack we’ll make our own edible “Winter Tree” and science experiment s will include “ice melt.”

Ms. Leeds will work individually with each child using workbooks and worksheets, practicing letter and number formation and name writing.
